Avowed Classless System Guide

Avowed completely breaks away from traditional locked-class systems. Taking inspiration from Skyrim and Obsidian's own Pillars of Eternity, your "class" is entirely determined by the weapons you hold in your hands and how you distribute your core attributes.

The Core Attributes of Eora

Your damage and survivability scale directly off four main pillars:

  • Might: The driving force behind Melee weapons (Swords, Axes, Greatswords). High Might ensures your physical strikes hit incredibly hard.
  • Dexterity: Crucial for Ranged weapons (Bows, Pistols) and overall Attack Speed. A high-Dexterity dual-pistol build can output rapid-fire bursts before enemies close the gap.
  • Intellect: The core of Magic. It governs the damage of Wands and Grimoires, while also expanding the Area of Effect (AoE) of your spells and extending buff durations.
  • Resolve: Your defensive stat. It increases your maximum health, endurance, and resistance to status effects. Essential for frontline Shield users.
Dual-Wielding Synergy:
Avowed allows you to mix any one-handed weapon with any other. Holding a Sword (Scales with Might) in one hand and a Wand (Scales with Intellect) in the other creates a hybrid "Spellblade." While you gain the utility of attacking at both close and long ranges, you must carefully balance your attribute points to ensure neither weapon falls behind in damage.
Can I use a Grimoire without a Wand?

Yes. Grimoires are spellbooks that occupy a hand slot. You can cast spells from a Grimoire while holding a Sword in your other hand, allowing you to freeze an enemy with magic and shatter them with a melee strike.

Do two-handed weapons lock my off-hand?

Yes. Equipping a Greatsword or a two-handed Bow occupies both the Main Hand and Off Hand slots, meaning you cannot equip a Shield or a Grimoire alongside them. However, they generally possess much higher base damage to compensate.
