UFC 5 Striking & Damage Guide
EA SPORTS UFC 5 introduced an authentic, highly mathematical damage engine. Unlike previous iterations where you could trade blows endlessly, UFC 5 heavily punishes poor stamina management and heavily rewards perfectly timed counter-strikes through its Vulnerability system.
The Vulnerability Multiplier
Vulnerability is the secret to getting Flash KOs. When a fighter is standing still, they take base damage. However, if they are performing an action, their vulnerability spikes.
- Counter Hits: Striking an opponent while they are mid-animation applies a 1.3x to 1.5x multiplier.
- Critical Sway: If an opponent sways or ducks directly into the path of your strike (e.g., swaying right into a right hook), the game registers a Critical Vulnerability. This multiplies the damage by up to 2.5x, almost guaranteeing a knockdown, severe cut, or flash KO.
Your damage output is intrinsically linked to your short-term stamina bar. Throwing a massive overhand when your stamina is full utilizes 100% of your power stat. Throwing that same overhand when your stamina is at 20% applies a severe penalty, reducing the damage output to a fraction of its potential, while simultaneously making you highly vulnerable to counter-attacks.
Doctor Stoppages & Authentic Damage
UFC 5 tracks damage dynamically across the face and body. Repeatedly landing strikes with a high raw damage output (calculated above) to the same area will result in cuts and swelling. If a single strike registers a massive damage spike (via the Vulnerability Multiplier), it has a high chance of instantly splitting the skin or swelling the eye shut, prompting a ringside doctor stoppage.
Do Power Stats matter?
Yes. A fighter with a 98 Punch Power stat hits significantly harder than one with an 85. The calculator applies this as a percentage modifier to the strike's base value. High power fighters benefit exponentially more from Counter Hit multipliers.
Why did my head kick do no damage?
If you threw a head kick, it consumes a massive amount of stamina. If your stamina was already low, the strike loses almost all of its speed and impact. Furthermore, if the opponent cleanly blocked it (Full Block = 0.2x multiplier), the remaining damage is mitigated to almost nothing.
