The Meta-Game: Understanding Trait Economics
1. The Evasion vs. Accuracy Arms Race
Currently, the PvP meta revolves around the "Evasion Threshold". If you stack Melee Evasion traits on every possible armor piece, you can reach values (e.g., 1000+) where enemies simply cannot hit you without sacrificing their own damage for Hit Rating.
However, this is a binary curve. If you have 800 Evasion and the enemy has 900 Hit, your Evasion is effectively 0. Traits must be stacked aggressively to be viable. Diluting your build with 1 Melee Evasion, 1 Ranged Endurance, and 1 Max Health often results in a character that is mediocre at everything.
2. Trait Resonance & Slot Efficiency
Not all slots are created equal. You must maximize the unique offerings of each gear type:
| Gear Type | Priority Traits (Meta) | Why? |
|---|---|---|
| Weapons | Hit, Heavy Attack, Crit Hit | Offensive stats are scarce. Heavy Attack is currently double-dipping in damage calculations for many builds (Greatsword/Dagger). |
| Helmet/Boots | Evasion (Melee/Range/Magic) | These are primary defensive layers. Stacking Evasion here frees up Accessories for offensive traits. |
| Jewelry | Skill Haste, Debuff Duration | Skill Haste is the only way to lower global cooldowns significantly. Essential for Healers and Wand users. |
3. The Cost of Perfection: Sollant & Lucent
Upgrading traits is the primary currency sink. To unlock the 3rd trait slot on a Purple item, you need a duplicate item (or Unlockstone) and roughly 50-100 Trait Unlockstones depending on the market patch. Planning your build here before buying items on the Auction House is critical.
Pro Tip: It is often cheaper to buy a piece of gear that already has the most expensive trait (e.g., Heavy Attack Chance) and then use cheap fodder to roll the less expensive traits (e.g., Hit Rating) onto it.
