PDA Databank: Subnautica Resource Management

Survival in Subnautica relies heavily on efficient inventory management and forward planning. Late-game blueprints like the Cyclops or Prawn Suit require complex, nested crafting trees that can leave you making dozens of unnecessary trips back to your base if you don't calculate the raw materials beforehand.

Deconstructing the Crafting Tree

Many items require "Intermediate Components"—items that must be crafted from raw materials before they can be used in a larger blueprint. The Advanced Wiring Kit is the perfect example of nested complexity:

[ANALYSIS: Advanced Wiring Kit]
Level 1: 1x Wiring Kit, 2x Gold, 1x Computer Chip
Level 2: (2x Silver), 2x Gold, (2x Table Coral, 1x Gold, 1x Copper Wire)
Level 3: 2x Silver, 3x Gold, 2x Table Coral, (2x Copper Ore)
Total Raw Cost: 2 Silver, 3 Gold, 2 Table Coral, 2 Copper.

Our calculator automatically performs this recursive math. When you select a vehicle, it breaks down every battery, wire, and ingot into the exact ores and flora you need to physically harvest from the ocean.

Inventory Compression Tactics

The standard player inventory in Subnautica holds exactly 48 items (a 6x8 grid). Gathering raw materials for large projects will often overflow your inventory. Look at the "Inventory Space Required" visualizer above; if the boxes turn orange, it means you physically cannot hold all the raw materials at once.

To bypass this, you must use Inventory Compression. 10 pieces of Titanium take up 10 slots. By crafting them into a Titanium Ingot at a fabricator, you compress them into a single slot. Always travel with a mobile vehicle bay or craft intermediate parts at local scanner bases before returning to your main construction hub.

Does the calculator include recipe costs for Subnautica: Below Zero?

No, this calculator is strictly mapped to the original Subnautica recipes. Below Zero alters several fundamental recipes (like requiring Plasteel Ingots to use Lithium instead of Lead, and replacing synthetic fiber mechanics).

Are battery charges accounted for?

When crafting complex electronics that require Batteries or Power Cells (like the Seamoth), the calculator breaks them down into their raw Copper, Acid Mushrooms, and Silicone Rubber. The resulting vehicle will spawn with fully charged power cells.
