About Signal Backup Viewer
This Signal Backup File Viewer Online is a secure, client-side tool designed to help you access your Signal chat history without needing to restore the backup to a phone. Whether you've lost your phone, switched devices, or just want to archive your conversations, this tool allows you to decrypt and view your messages and photos directly in your browser.
Unlike other tools that require command-line knowledge or software installation, this viewer runs entirely in your web browser. Your data never leaves your device. All decryption happens locally using your computer's processing power.
How to Use
- Locate your Backup: On your Android phone, go to Signal Settings > Chats > Chat backups to create a backup. Transfer the `.backup` file to your computer.
- Select File: Click "Select Backup File" and choose your Signal backup.
- Enter Passphrase: Type in the 30-digit passphrase you were given when you enabled backups.
- Unlock: Click "Unlock & Scan". The tool will verify your key and start scanning the file for messages and media.
- View & Export: Browse your messages, view photos, and export everything to CSV or ZIP formats.
Features
- 100% Client-Side Security: No data upload. Decryption happens in your browser.
- Media Extraction: Recover photos, videos, and documents trapped in your backup.
- Searchable History: Quickly find old messages using the built-in search.
- Export Options: Convert your Signal chats to readable CSV files or download all media as a ZIP archive.
- Passphrase Validator: Instantly check if your 30-digit code is correct for a specific file.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to use this online?
+
Yes. This tool is "online" only in the sense that it loads from a website. Once loaded, it works offline. No file data or passphrases are sent to any server. You can even disconnect your internet before using it.
Can I view iOS backups?
+
No. Signal on iOS uses a different backup method (iTunes/iCloud) and does not generate the standalone `.backup` files that Android does. This tool is for Android backups only.
What if I lost my passphrase?
+
Unfortunately, Signal backups are encrypted with strong AES-256 encryption. Without the 30-digit passphrase, it is mathematically impossible to decrypt the file. There is no "forgot password" feature.
