Surviving the SevTech: Ages Resource Grind

SevTech: Ages is notorious for its brutal, highly gated progression system. Unlike vanilla Minecraft where you can punch a tree and immediately craft a wooden pickaxe, SevTech forces you through hundreds of micro-crafting steps just to melt your first piece of copper. The community affectionately calls this era "ClayTech" due to the absurd amount of clay required to progress through Ages 0, 1, and 2.

Age 1: The Porcelain Melter

Your first multi-block structure is the Porcelain Melter. You cannot build a full Tinkers' Smeltery yet. You must gather clay from riverbeds and bone meal from skeletons (or grinding bone shards) to create Unfired Porcelain.

Porcelain Formula:
1 Clay Ball + 1 Bone Meal = 1 Unfired Porcelain.
A minimal setup (Melter, Heater, Faucet, Basin) requires exactly 25 Porcelain Bricks, meaning you must survive long enough to farm 25 bones and 25 clay.

Age 2: The Seared Smeltery

To double your ore output and mix alloys like Bronze, you must upgrade to the Seared Smeltery. This replaces Bone Meal with Sand and Gravel to create Grout.

Seared Grout Formula:
1 Clay Ball + 1 Sand + 1 Gravel = 2 Grout = 2 Seared Bricks.
This means 1 Seared Brick mathematically costs exactly 0.5 of each raw material.

The Coke Oven Trap

When you unlock Immersive Engineering, you are tasked with building a Coke Oven to create Creosote Oil. Many players are shocked by the cost. A single Coke Brick requires 4 Clay Balls, 4 Sand, and a standard Brick Block (which is 4 more Clay Balls smelted). Because the oven requires 27 blocks, you need a staggering 216 Clay Balls and 108 Sand just for this one structure. Use the calculator above to ensure you have enough inventory space before starting your mining trip.
