Surviving RLCraft: The Level Up! Reloaded Math
In RLCraft, you cannot simply mine diamonds and craft a sword. The Level Up! Reloaded mod enforces strict skill requirements for everything. To wield a Diamond Sword, you must reach Attack Level 16. To wear Dragon Scale armor, you need Defense Level 24. Upgrading these skills costs Minecraft experience levels, and understanding the math behind it will save you hours of grinding.
The XP Tome Optimization Strategy
The cost to upgrade a skill from level X to X+1 is simply X+1 levels. (E.g., going from Defense 15 to 16 costs exactly 16 levels). However, Minecraft's XP formula is exponential. The raw XP required to go from level 0 to 1 is 7 XP. The raw XP required to go from level 29 to 30 is 107 XP.
If you need 16 levels to upgrade your skill, it is mathematically devastating to farm to level 30, and then spend 16 levels (dropping you to 14). Because you gathered those expensive "high-end" levels, you wasted massive amounts of raw XP.
Upgrading a skill from Level 1 to 24 requires a total of 299 spent levels.
If you farm exactly enough raw XP to reach level 299 in one go, you will need 355,937 Raw XP.
If you use XP Tomes to store your XP, drop to level 0, and pull out exactly what you need for each individual upgrade step, it only costs 5,428 Raw XP.
Hoarding levels costs 65x more XP!
How to Use the XP Tome
Craft an XP Tome (using a book and ender pearls/magic items). When you hold it and sneak-right-click, it stores your current XP into the tome, dropping you to Level 0. One tome can hold up to 30 levels (1445 Raw XP). Whenever you have enough XP to afford your next skill upgrade, pull exactly that amount out of the tome, spend it, and repeat.
Can I lose XP if I die with a Tome?
If the XP Tome is in your inventory when you die, it drops like a normal item. If it falls in lava or despawns, all the stored XP is lost forever. Always store your full XP Tomes in a secure chest at your base.
What level do I need for Tide Guardian armor?
Tide Guardian armor (crafted from Sea Serpent scales) requires Level 24 Defense, exactly the same as Dragon Scale armor. However, it also requires Level 24 Magic if you wish to use the inherent water-breathing and strength buffs efficiently.
