About the Pokemon Type Coverage Calculator
Welcome to the most advanced and lightweight Pokemon Type Coverage Calculator on the web. Designed for competitive players (VGC, Smogon OU) and casual trainers alike, this tool helps you build the perfect team by analyzing both your offensive reach and defensive vulnerabilities.
How to Use
- Set Pokemon Types: Select the primary and secondary types for up to 6 Pokemon in your team. This calculates your defensive weaknesses.
- Add Move Types: For each Pokemon, select the types of the attacking moves they carry. This calculates your offensive coverage.
- Analyze: The grids on the right update instantly. Look for types with "0" in the Offensive chart (types you can't hit hard) or high numbers in the Defensive chart (types that threaten your whole team).
- Share: Click "Share / Save" to generate a unique link to your build.
Why Coverage Matters
In Pokemon battles, "Coverage" refers to the ability of your team's moves to hit a wide variety of opponent types for Super Effective damage. A team with perfect coverage can hit every single Pokemon type for at least neutral damage, and ideally, super effective damage. This calculator uses the latest Generation 9 type chart, including Fairy type interactions.
Tips for a Balanced Team
- Core Breakers: Ensure you have moves that can hit Steel and Fairy types, as these are common defensive pivots.
- Defensive Synergy: Try to pair Pokemon that cover each other's weaknesses. For example, a Flying type is immune to the Ground moves that threaten your Electric type.
- Don't Forget STAB: Remember that moves matching your Pokemon's type get a 50% damage bonus (Same Type Attack Bonus).
