About the Pokemon Catch Rate Calculator
Welcome to the most advanced Pokemon Catch Rate Calculator on the web. Whether you are playing Pokemon Scarlet & Violet (Gen 9) or revisiting classics like FireRed or Emerald, this tool helps you determine the exact probability of catching any Pokemon.
Unlike basic calculators, our tool features a Live Battle Tracker that adjusts odds in real-time as turns pass (essential for Timer Balls) and a Resource Estimator to help you prepare your inventory before a legendary encounter.
How to Use This Tool
- Select Pokemon: Type the name of the Pokemon. We fetch its base catch rate automatically.
- Set Conditions: Adjust the HP slider and apply status conditions like Sleep or Paralysis. Sleep provides the highest bonus (2.5x).
- Choose Your Ball: Select the Pokeball you intend to use. The calculator supports special conditions for Net Balls, Dusk Balls, and more.
- Track Turns: Use the "Live Battle Tracker" to count turns. This automatically updates the effectiveness of Quick Balls (Turn 1) and Timer Balls (Turn 10+).
Tips for Catching Difficult Pokemon
Legendary Pokemon often have a base catch rate of 3, making them extremely difficult to capture. To maximize your odds:
- False Swipe: Use the move False Swipe to safely lower the target's HP to 1 without fainting it.
- Status is Key: Always apply Sleep (2.5x multiplier) or Freeze. If you can't, Paralysis (1.5x) is a permanent status that doesn't wear off.
- Sandwich Power (Gen 9): In Scarlet & Violet, eating a sandwich with "Catching Power" for the specific type can double your catch rate.
- Critical Capture: Completing your Pokedex increases your Critical Capture chance, which bypasses three of the four shake checks.
Frequently Asked Questions
The modern formula (Gen 5+) calculates a "Modified Catch Rate" based on Max HP, Current HP, Catch Rate, Ball Bonus, and Status Bonus. If this value passes a threshold (255), the catch is guaranteed. Otherwise, the game runs four "shake checks" based on probability.
No. Despite popular playground rumors (like holding Down + B), pressing buttons during the capture animation has absolutely no effect on the catch rate in any Pokemon game.
The Timer Ball becomes more effective the longer the battle lasts. It starts at 1x and increases every turn, reaching its maximum effectiveness of 4x at turn 10 (Gen 5+) or turn 30 (older generations). Our tool calculates this automatically.
