About & Guide
About This OpenEmu .m3u Generator
This free OpenEmu .m3u generator lets players build perfect multi‑disc playlists for PlayStation, Sega CD, TurboGrafx CD, Neo Geo CD and other disc‑based systems supported by OpenEmu. A playlist file (.m3u) tells OpenEmu which disc images belong together so that you can swap discs from the in‑game menu without manually browsing your library. Instead of hand editing lines in a text editor, this tool streamlines the entire process: drag and drop your .cue, .chd, .iso or .bin files, reorder them with simple handles, auto label them with a smart “Disc {n}” pattern, and instantly export a standards‑compliant UTF‑8 file. Nothing uploads; it all runs locally for privacy and speed. The interface is lightweight, responsive and minimal so it embeds cleanly on modern sites. You can import an existing playlist, tweak the order, and re‑generate in seconds—far faster than rewriting file lists from scratch. Optional Wikipedia search helps you confirm the canonical game title for tidy libraries. Validation hints flag duplicates, missing disc numbers, and suspicious extensions to prevent confusion later.
How to Use
- Enter a playlist name (the game title).
- Drop or add each disc’s primary file (usually the .cue if present).
- Drag the handle to reorder if needed.
- Click Auto Disc Labels to annotate quickly.
- Adjust output options (line endings, BOM, comments).
- Press Generate then Download or Copy.
- Place the .m3u next to the disc files inside your library folder.
Tips
- Prefer .cue files if available; they reference the correct track layout.
- Keep relative paths short; avoid deep nesting to simplify portability.
- Use canonical region tags (USA), (Europe), (Japan) only if you keep them consistent.
- Avoid spaces at end of filenames; stray whitespace can break matching.
- When converting to .chd keep base names predictable before generating the playlist.
Fast, accurate, and portable—generate once, enjoy seamless disc swaps forever.
