MTG Deck Power Level Calculator

Evaluate your Commander deck's strength (1-10) with real-time card data

Deck Input

    Deck Characteristics

The MTG Deck Power Level Calculator is a tool designed to evaluate the strength of your Magic: The Gathering Commander (EDH) deck on a scale of 1 to 10. Power level (PL) reflects how optimized a deck is for winning, considering factors like card efficiency, synergy, mana curve, and commander strength. This tool helps players ensure fair and fun matches by matching decks of similar power levels, from casual precons (PL 1-4) to competitive cEDH decks (PL 9-10). Unlike other calculators, our tool integrates real-time card data via the Scryfall API, offers decklist import/export, random deck generation, and features a visual power level gauge for an intuitive experience.

    How to Use

    1. Enter Commander: Type your commander’s name in the provided field. As you type, the Scryfall API suggests valid legendary creatures to ensure accuracy.

    2. Input Decklist: Paste your decklist (one card per line) in the textarea or use the “Import Decklist” button to upload it. The tool recognizes key staples like Mana Crypt or Sol Ring.

    3. Generate Random Deck: Click the “Random Deck” button to auto-fill the form with a random commander, sample decklist, and randomized characteristics (mana curve, synergy, tutors, fast mana) for quick testing.

    4. Specify Characteristics: Provide details about your deck:

      • Average Mana Curve: Enter the average Converted Mana Cost (CMC) of your deck (e.g., 3.5).

      • Synergy Level: Rate your deck’s synergy (1-10), based on how well cards work together.

      • Number of Tutors: Enter the count of tutor cards (e.g., Demonic Tutor).

      • Fast Mana Sources: Enter the count of fast mana cards (e.g., Mana Crypt, Lotus Petal).

    5. Calculate: Click “Calculate Power Level” to get your deck’s score and a description.

    6. Export Decklist: Use the “Export Decklist” button to save your decklist as a text file for sharing or storage.

    7. Review Results: The power level gauge visually indicates your deck’s strength, and a detailed description explains its tier.

    Tips

    • Accurate Decklist: For best results, ensure your decklist includes key cards. The tool recognizes staples but benefits from complete data.

    • Synergy Assessment: Be honest about synergy. A deck with cards that combo well (e.g., infinite loops) scores higher than a disjointed pile.

    • Use Random Deck for Testing: The “Random Deck” button is great for experimenting with different power levels or learning how the calculator evaluates decks.

    • Test Multiple Decks: Compare your decks to understand their relative power. This helps when choosing decks for different playgroups.

    • Use Scryfall Integration: Verify your commander and key cards using the autocomplete feature to avoid errors.

    • Balance for Fun: Aim for similar power levels in your playgroup (e.g., PL 5-6 for casual, 9-10 for cEDH) to ensure enjoyable games.

    • Optimize Mana Curve: Lower mana curves (e.g., 2.5-3.5) often indicate stronger decks, as they enable faster plays.

    • Experiment with Upgrades: Use the calculator to test how adding tutors or fast mana impacts your deck’s power level.
