About the MTG Deck Power Level Calculator

Welcome to the most advanced MTG Deck Power Level Calculator on the web. In the world of Commander (EDH), the "Rule 0" conversation is crucial. However, telling your playgroup your deck is a "7" has become a meme because it's subjective. This tool removes the guesswork.

We use a weighted algorithm that analyzes the five pillars of competitive EDH: Speed, Consistency, Mana Efficiency, Interaction, and Win Conditions. Whether you're playing a casual tribal deck or a fringe cEDH build, this calculator gives you a fair, transparent number.

How to Interpret Your Score

  • 1-2 (Jank/Pile): Cards you own thrown together with no clear theme.
  • 3-4 (Precon/Casual): Out-of-the-box Commander decks or low-budget brews. Fun, slower games (Turn 12+ wins).
  • 5-6 (Focused/Upgraded): Clear game plan, good synergy, maybe a few powerful cards. The average "local game store" deck.
  • 7-8 (Optimized/High Power): Fast mana, tutors, efficient combos. Can win Turn 5-8 consistently. "Pubstomper" territory if played against casuals.
  • 9-10 (cEDH): Maximum efficiency. Wins Turn 1-3. Uses Mana Crypt, Thassa's Oracle, etc. Zero budget restrictions.

Common Mistakes in Power Leveling

Players often overestimate their own decks. The most common reason is ignoring consistency. A deck that wins on Turn 4 once but usually wins on Turn 10 is not a High Power deck. This calculator rewards consistency (Tutors, Draw Engines) heavily for this reason.

Why is Sol Ring not considered "Fast Mana"?

In the context of power level calibration, Sol Ring is included in almost every single Commander deck, from precons to cEDH. Therefore, it doesn't serve as a differentiator for higher power tiers like Mana Crypt or Mox Diamond do.

What makes a deck a "7"?

A true "7" is an Optimized deck. It usually has a strict mana curve (avg CMC < 3.5), multiple ways to find its win condition, and efficient interaction. If your deck relies on drawing one specific card naturally to win, it's likely a 5 or 6.
