Mastering the Create Mod: Stress vs. Speed
In the Minecraft Create Mod, machines do not use RF or Forge Energy. Instead, they rely on purely mechanical Kinetic Energy. Building a successful factory requires balancing your Rotational Speed (RPM) against your Stress Capacity (SU).
What is Stress Capacity (SU)?
Generators like Water Wheels, Windmills, and Steam Engines generate Stress Capacity. This is the "budget" your network has to operate. A basic Water Wheel generates exactly 256 SU. A fully upgraded Level 9 Steam Engine generates a massive 16,384 SU.
Machine Stress Impact = (Base Machine Cost) × (Current RPM)
Example: A Mechanical Press has a base cost of 8. If you run it at 32 RPM, it consumes exactly 256 SU (8 * 32). This perfectly consumes the output of a single standard Water Wheel.
The Overstress Mechanic
If you connect too many machines, or if you use gear ratios to drastically speed up your network (e.g., from 16 RPM to 128 RPM), your Total Impact will exceed your Total Capacity. When this happens, the network becomes Overstressed. All gears will immediately stop turning, and no machines will function until you either add more generators or lower the RPM of the network using gearboxes or sequence gearshifts.
Why does my Mechanical Mixer say "Speed Requirement Not Met"?
Some machines require a minimum RPM to function, regardless of your SU capacity. The Mechanical Mixer requires a minimum of 30 RPM to begin mixing recipes. If your network is spinning at 16 RPM, you must use Large Cogwheels to gear up the speed before it connects to the mixer.
Do shafts and cogwheels consume Stress?
No. Basic kinetic components like Shafts, Cogwheels, Belts, and Gearboxes do not consume any Stress Units. They only transfer power and alter RPM. Only active functional machines (Presses, Drills, Fans, etc.) consume your SU budget.
