Mastering the Economy of Manor Lords
Building a sprawling town in Manor Lords requires more than just placing houses. To afford upgrades, mercenaries, and imports, you must generate Regional Wealth. The most efficient way to do this is by establishing Artisan Burgage Plots to refine cheap raw materials into expensive trade goods.
The Power of Artisans (Value-Add)
Exporting raw Leather yields a modest profit. However, if you upgrade a Level 2 Burgage Plot into a Cobbler's Workshop, those families will consume Leather to produce Shoes.
- Raw Value: Leather exports for ~4 Regional Wealth.
- Processed Value: Shoes export for ~8 Regional Wealth.
- Value Added: The Artisan effectively doubles the value of the underlying resource, allowing you to generate massive wealth from a relatively small hunting footprint.
Artisans require raw materials to work. If your Storehouse is full, or you don't have enough Granary/Storehouse workers moving goods, the Artisans will spend 80% of their month walking back and forth instead of crafting. Use the Supply Chain Efficiency slider above to see how logistical delays tank your monthly profits.
Families and Burgage Levels
A Level 2 Burgage Plot typically houses 1 family. However, if the plot has a backyard extension built large enough for a second living space, it can house 2 families. When upgraded to a Level 3 plot, it can house up to 4 families. Since Artisans are permanently locked into their profession, a 4-family Level 3 Cobbler will consume leather and pump out shoes at an industrial scale.
Can Artisans do other work?
No. Once a Burgage Plot is converted into an Artisan workspace (Blacksmith, Tailor, Cobbler, etc.), the families living there are permanently removed from the general labor pool. They will not help build structures, farm, or guide oxen.
Why did my production stop?
Production halts for three reasons: 1) You ran out of raw materials. 2) Your generic storage is completely full, meaning the artisans have nowhere to put their finished goods. 3) Regional Wealth is too low to afford imports if you are relying on imported raw materials.
