Mastering Industry in KeeperRL

In KeeperRL, efficiency is the key to survival. Whether you are rushing to equip your minions with iron gear before the first knight arrives, or trying to mass-produce potions, understanding how your workforce operates is crucial. This Prison Labor Calculator helps you plan your crafting queues and resource gathering operations effectively.

💡 Prisoner Management Tip

Prisoners are free labor, but they come with risks. Ensure you have enough Warden presence to suppress revolts. If a prisoner's morale drops too low, they may stop working or attack your dungeon heart. A well-fed prisoner in a workshop is worth more than a corpse in the graveyard!

How Calculation Works

Production in KeeperRL is generally additive. The calculator uses the following logic to estimate your throughput:

  • Base Turns: The "cost" of an item in labor points. Complex items like Plate Armor require significantly more points than a wooden club.
  • Workforce Size: More workers reduce time linearly. Two goblins work twice as fast as one (assuming enough workshop tiles are available).
  • Efficiency Modifier: Not all workers are equal. A prisoner might work at 50-70% speed compared to a dedicated crafting unit. High morale, specific traits, or racial bonuses (like Dwarves at a forge) can boost this above 100%.

Strategies for Mass Production

  1. Parallel Workshops: Ensure you have enough workshop tiles. If you assign 10 prisoners but only have 4 anvil tiles, 6 prisoners will stand idle.
  2. Batch Queuing: Use the "Batch Size" feature in this calculator to estimate how long it takes to outfit a full squad. For example, crafting 10 sets of armor might take 2000 turns—plan your invasions accordingly.
  3. Resource Gathering: This tool also works for mining! Select "Mining" in the dropdown to see how quickly your team can clear out a 10x10 room (100 tiles).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Do prisoners need beds? +
Yes, if you want to keep them long-term. Sleep deprivation lowers efficiency and increases the chance of rebellion. A basic dormitory is usually sufficient for a labor force.
What is the best race for crafting? +
Dwarves are generally the superior craftsmen for metalwork, often having efficiency bonuses. Goblins are decent all-rounders for early game industry. Orcs are better suited for combat than the forge.
