IPD to FOV VR Calculator
IPD Measurement Guide
Measure your IPD using a ruler and mirror: align the zero mark with the center of one pupil, then read the distance to the other pupil's center. Use the canvas below as a reference (1 pixel = 1mm).
About
Interpupillary Distance (IPD) is the distance between your pupils (54–72mm, average 64mm). In VR, matching IPD to the headset’s lenses optimizes field of view (FOV) and comfort. This calculator estimates horizontal and vertical FOV, adjusts for discrete IPD settings, and provides a 3D visualization and comfort score.
How to Use
- Enter your IPD (mm, use the measurement guide if needed).
- Select a VR headset or enter custom specs (FOV, IPD range).
- Enter eye relief (distance from eye to lens, typically 8–15mm).
- Optionally save/load an IPD profile.
- Click "Calculate" for nominal/effective FOV, comfort score, and 3D visualization.
- Click "Export Results" to download results.
Tips
- Use a mirror or app (e.g., EyeMeasure) for accurate IPD measurement.
- Adjust headset IPD to the closest setting to your IPD for clarity.
- IPD outside the headset’s range may cause eye strain; choose compatible headsets.
- Minimize eye relief for larger FOV, but ensure comfort.
- Test discrete IPD settings (e.g., 58/63/68mm on Quest 2) for the sharpest image.
