Grounded 2 Loadout Theorycrafting

Creating the perfect build in Grounded 2 is a delicate balancing act. You cannot simply equip the armor with the highest defense rating without suffering severe mobility penalties. Your loadout must synergize with your chosen weapon and playstyle.

Armor Weight Classes & Stamina Penalties

Every piece of armor in the game belongs to one of three weight classes. This dictates how much defense it provides, but more importantly, it dictates your Stamina Regeneration Delay (how long it takes for your stamina bar to start refilling after attacking or sprinting).

Light Armor: Very low defense. +5% Stamina Regen Delay per piece.
Medium Armor: Balanced defense. +15% Stamina Regen Delay per piece.
Heavy Armor: Maximum defense. +25% Stamina Regen Delay per piece (Total +75% for a full set!).

Mitigating Penalties with Mutations

If you choose to run a full Heavy tank build (like the Roly Poly set), your stamina will recover agonizingly slow, leaving you vulnerable after swinging heavy weapons. To counter this, you must dedicate mutation slots to mobility. Equipping Cardio Fan and Buff Lungs is practically mandatory for Heavy armor users to offset the built-in penalties.

The Value of Set Bonuses

While mixing and matching armor pieces (e.g., a Heavy helmet with Light legs to balance stamina) is a valid strategy, wearing three pieces of the same armor set unlocks a powerful Set Bonus. For example, a full Spider set grants "Hunter's Prowess," significantly boosting your stamina recovery speed, while a full Fire Ant set applies a corrosive acid debuff to enemies.

Can I upgrade my armor's weight class?

No, the weight class (Light/Medium/Heavy) is permanently tied to the armor type. However, taking armor down the "Sleek" upgrade path instead of "Bulky" grants it an additional unique passive ability, further defining your build.

Does the Meat Shield mutation stack with armor?

Yes. Meat Shield provides a flat boost to your maximum health pool. Because Heavy armor mitigates incoming damage via the armor formula, having a larger health pool makes each point of defense mathematically more valuable. High HP + High Defense = Exponentially higher survivability.
