About This Tool

Welcome to the most advanced PES to DST Converter available online. This tool was built with a single mission: to provide embroidery enthusiasts and professionals with a fast, secure, and reliable way to convert Brother (PES) designs into the industry-standard Tajima (DST) format.

Unlike traditional online converters that require you to upload your precious designs to a remote server—risking privacy and intellectual property theft—our tool runs 100% in your browser. This means your files never leave your computer. The conversion happens instantly using modern JavaScript technology, ensuring zero wait times and maximum security.

Why Convert PES to DST?

PES (Brother) files are the native format for many home embroidery machines like Brother, Babylock, and Bernina. They contain rich information including thread colors and hoop sizes.

DST (Tajima) files, on the other hand, are the universal language of commercial embroidery. If you want to run your design on a multi-needle machine (like Tajima, Barudan, SWF, or Happy) or send it to a contract embroiderer, you need a DST file. DST files are "stitch-based," meaning they contain the raw X/Y coordinates for every needle movement, making them extremely reliable for production.

How to Use

  1. Select Your Files: Click the "Select Files" button or simply drag and drop your .PES files into the dashed box above. You can select up to 50 files at once for batch processing.
  2. Instant Preview: As soon as you drop your files, our tool analyzes the stitch data and generates a visual preview. This ensures you are converting the correct file and allows you to verify the design integrity before conversion.
  3. Convert & Download: Click the "Convert" button next to each file to download them individually. If you have multiple files, use the "Convert All" button (coming soon) to process them in bulk.
  4. Load into Machine: Save the resulting .DST file to a USB drive. Plug the drive into your embroidery machine, and you are ready to stitch!

Tips for Perfect Conversions

  • Thread Colors: The most important thing to know about DST files is that they do not store color information. They only store "Stop" commands. When you load the file onto your machine, it will likely show default colors (often blue and yellow). You must manually assign the correct thread colors on your machine's control panel based on your original design.
  • Centering: This tool preserves the exact coordinate system of your original PES file. If your design was not centered in the hoop in your digitizing software, it will remain off-center in the DST file. Always check the start/end points on your machine.
  • File Naming: Commercial machines often have strict file naming conventions. To avoid errors, keep your filenames under 8 characters, use only uppercase letters and numbers, and avoid special characters (e.g., use DESIGN01.DST instead of My Design (Final).dst).
  • Stitch Count: DST files have no limit on stitch count, but your machine might. Always check your machine's manual for maximum stitch limits per design.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this tool really free?
Yes, this PES to DST converter is completely free to use. There are no hidden fees, no subscriptions, and no limits on how many files you can convert. We believe in providing high-quality tools to the embroidery community.
Are my designs safe?
Absolutely. This is the safest way to convert files online. Because the conversion happens inside your web browser (client-side), your proprietary designs are never uploaded to our servers. You retain full control and ownership of your intellectual property at all times.
Why did the colors change in the DST file?
This is a limitation of the DST file format, not the converter. The Tajima DST format was created decades ago for industrial machines and only stores "Move," "Jump," and "Stop" commands. It does not have a data field for RGB color values. You will always need to map the colors manually on your machine.
Can I convert DST back to PES?
Technically yes, but you will not regain the original color data or object properties. Converting DST back to PES results in a "dumb" stitch file, where the software sees only stitches, not shapes or segments. It is always best to keep your original PES master file.
Does this work on Mac and Mobile?
Yes! Since this tool runs in the browser, it works perfectly on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android tablets, and iPads. You can convert files on the go without installing any software.
