The Architect's Puzzle: Dart Mechanics

In Blue Prince, the mysteries of Mt. Holly often require precision. The dartboard puzzles are no exception. Whether you are trying to hit a specific score to unlock a safe or playing a game of 301 against an NPC, knowing the math is better than guessing.

💡 How Dart Scoring Works

The board is divided into 20 slices (1-20). Each slice has distinct zones:

  • Single (Large Area): Worth the face value (e.g., 20).
  • Double (Outer Ring): Worth 2x the value (e.g., 40). Often required to "Finish" a game.
  • Triple (Inner Ring): Worth 3x the value (e.g., 60). The highest scoring zones.
  • Bullseye: Outer Green is 25, Inner Red is 50.

Strategy for "Double Out"

Many traditional dart games require you to hit a Double segment to reduce your score to exactly zero. If you are stuck on an odd number (e.g., 17 remaining), you cannot finish directly. You must hit an odd number (like Single 1) to bring your score to an even number (16), which allows you to hit Double 8 for the win.

Common "Blue Prince" Targets

While exploring the mansion, keep an eye out for sticky notes or blueprints with numbers circled. Common puzzle solutions often involve:

  • Room Numbers: Hitting the sequence of the room you are currently standing in.
  • The "401" Clue: A reference to the area code or a variation of standard 301/501 rules.
  • Architectural Years: Dates like 1985 might be split into targets (19, 8, 5).
What is the highest score with 3 darts? +
180 points. This is achieved by hitting three Triple 20s (T20 - T20 - T20).
Do I need to use all 3 darts? +
No. This solver prioritizes the fewest darts possible. However, some puzzles in adventure games strictly require using all projectiles. If so, look for solutions that involve "burning" darts on low numbers or misses if allowed.
